The Death of The International Connection: Day 2
28 December 2006, JakartaIt’s been 2 days since the 7.1 SR hit Taiwan couple days ago and the international connection from my ISP is still down. I can’t connect to any server outside Indonesia. None, nothing, zero, zip, zap, bla bla bla.
The bad news is the restoration of the undersea fiber optic cable will take 2 or 3 weeks. Now that is a bad news, a very bad news for a person or company who rely their business on the internet connection, especially international connection. For me, a remote worker who have to communicate with my employer with messenger, upload my work to FTP server and discuss with other employees in a web based program that is a very horrible news. 1-3 days will be fine, but 2-3 weeks? Man…
I can understand that there is nothing we can do with the earthquake, but I’m sure we (should) have plans to do after the earthquake. I hope, my ISP have the plan B for this kind of situation and solve the international connection problem in couple days ahead, whether re-route it into satellite or another undersea fiber optic cable or anything.
The important thing is I want the international connection back normal in couple days not couple weeks or months! This is serious. I have my wife and a daughter behind me. How many person in Indonesia have the same problem like me right now? I’m sure, there is a lot.
Can I sue my ISP if there is something bad happen with the relationship between me and my employer out there? Or may I sue the board of government who responsible for this kind of problem?
Browsing the internet with no international connection is like walking in a closed-box. Damn!
Update
